Josephine O'Brien

ASSOCIATE

Josephine O'Brien is a published and award winning Architect with professional architecture experience in Australia, Asia, Europe, USA and the Middle East

She is a former Principal of an architecture practice, and a Senior Architect with a number of high profile national and international firms.

In addition to private practice she was a Faculty Member in university design programs and in ESD (Ecologically Sustainable Development) and a Director of various boards and business organizations and research foundations.

Experience lies in buildings of varying scale and complexity across multiple sectors; commercial, residential, retail, hotels and resorts with budgets ranging from $500,000 to $250 million.

Following tertiary studies at Deakin University, Victoria and The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Architecture with honors. After entering private practice she completed a Business Administration course at Monash University, Victoria. Subsequent qualifications include the Architect Registration and the Diploma of Property Development.

With extensive travel and appreciation of language (fluent English and Danish, working knowledge of German), Josephine brings a cultural awareness and fresh, open approach to design.

Radio and print media coverage of design work comprises local, state and national newspapers, professional journals, house magazines, SBS and ABC.

Design Responsibility has included site selection and analysis, building sitting, concept design, massing models, schematic design, and design development, design detailing and drawing set delivery.

She has proven skill and extensive experience in siting and conceptualizing buildings in both cities and the landscape which can be sensitive, isolated or with challenging physical characteristics.

Project Responsibility has included engaging and co-ordinating consultants, Authority investigation and negotiation, Planning Approval and Building Application submissions, Project Leader of Design and Documentation Teams.

Josephine is a registered Architect in the State of Victoria (16234), Queensland (4244) and NSW (8160). She is a member of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects (R.A.I.A), the Architecture Association of Australia (AAA) and the Master Builders Association of NSW (MBANSW).
